Christmas time is truly a special time for
children. My genealogy research has allowed
me to find letters to Santa from two ancestors. Newspapers would receive and
print requests to Santa Claus from individual children and schools listing the
names of children in the paper’s distribution area. The newspapers would often agree to forward the letters to the North Pole.
I found a letter to Santa from Conway Brumfield and Lula Bullock. Conway was the great-grandson of Louis and Liddie Brumfield Caston.

Vertical Pedigree for Conway Brumfield |
Conway stated he was a good boy. He requested fireworks, fruit, and a rife. At the time Conway wrote his letter he was 13 years old. He asked Santa not to forget his mother, dad, teacher, and little brother in the McComb Daily Journal on December 21, 1939.
Lula Bullock was the great-granddaughter of Joseph McEwen and Ellen Brumfield
Lula names her siblings and her teacher. I found it very interesting that the newspaper identified Lula as colored. I easily identified her family with the letter to Santa Claus.
