Andrew Bulock Part 1

Andrew Bullock was a farmer born February 1858 in Mississippi from the 1900 enumeration of the Pike County, Mississippi Federal census. His parents were born in Mississippi and their names are unknown at this time. His name is also known as Andy and Ander Bullock. Andrew Bullock had three brothers Charlie, Jake and John who were identified at the Brumfield and Bullock Family Reunion July 11 to 13, 1997 booklet. After research, the children assigned to John in the booklet are children of William Bullock. Andrew Bullock had three wives during his life.

In the 1880 Pike County federal census, Andrew is 22 married to M A Bullock 19 years old. They have one daughter enumerated A Bullock who is 9 months old. The quality of the census record is extremely poor and not reproduced here. In the 1885 Pike County school census, Andrew Bullock is identified along with Ada who is 6 years old. I have been unable to find additional information concerning M A Bullock.

FAMILY TIES 1

It’s often difficult to determine familial relationships this is especially true at family reunions. Everyone wants to know how they are related within their family and with other families. This is my first attempt at identifying some family ties. I have made multiple blog posts about the Caston, Downs, Gatlin, Brumfield and Andrews families.  I will have future blog posts on other branches. An extensive detailed genealogy of the Barnes family has been done by Rosie M. Polk which I will not try to duplicate on my blog. https://www.genealogy.com/ftm/p/o/l/Rosie-M-Polk/GENE4-0007.html

Every individual has 2  parents and 4 grandparents. An uncle is the brother of a person’s father or mother OR the husband of your aunt (aka uncle-in-law). An aunt is the sister of a person’s father or mother OR the wife of your uncle (aka aunt-in-law). First cousins share the same grandparents.

I would like to dissect a portion of the chart using the following illustrations:

Mattie and Charlie Barnes were brother and sister. They had 7 siblings, 25 aunts and uncles the siblings of their parents. If each aunt and uncle married a possible 25 uncle-in-laws and aunt-in-laws for a total of 50. The actual number is slightly less because of early deaths and unmarried individuals. I provided a more detailed genealogy of Charlie Barnes and Bertha Brumfield in the post "Tombstone Tuesday" September 20, 2022.

Edward “Ned” Barnes and Jerry Barnes were brothers. They each had 14 siblings. Harry Barnes, their father had 4 siblings and their mother Mahalia Johnson 3 siblings. They had 7 aunts and uncles. If each aunt and uncle married a possible 7 uncles-in-law and aunts-in-law for a total of 14.  I have  made an incomplete review of the names and number of the siblings' children and wives siblings children of Edward "Ned" Barnes and Jerry Barnes. From my review these two men  were uncles  and uncle in-law to a over 100 nieces and nephews.

Liddie Brumfield Caston and Louis Brumfield had 4 sons:
Richard Brumfield
Irving Brumfield
Thomas Brumfield
Frank Brumfield
Richard Brumfield and Thomas Brumfield are brothers.  They had 3 siblings each. There aunts and uncles are unknown.  The number of siblings of Liddie Brumfield Caston, Louis Brumfield, Ellen Walker, Catherine Love, Celia, and Louisa McEwen wife of Irving Brumfield are presently unknown from my research.  I have been unable to find the genealogy of Frank Brumfield.

From available information Thomas Brumfield had 25 nieces and nephews and Richard had 12 nieces and nephews.

This genealogy research presented is incomplete because names may have been omitted and all kinship relationships of these families have not been identified. Though oral history from descendants, research of historical records and DNA analysis more information my be obtained in the future. The goal was to show some selected families relationships.

Mary Johnson Enslaved Part 7

George and Mary continue to reside in Pike County. Enumerated in the 1900 census,  unique information is given not found in previous census such as  birthdates, years married, person's home rented mortgage or owned, and did they live on a farm or house. Mary and her parents were listed born in Mississippi. From the census record George  and Mary were married 55 years owned a farm. They had 13 children and 9 where still alive.

In the 1910 census, there are some discrepancies in information from the previous censuses. George and Mary's ages and years married are different. Mary enumerated born in Mississippi and parents were born in Maryland. George enumerated born in Mississippi and mother born in Maryland.  Mary had 10 children and 9 were alive. Courtney according to this census was born in 1872. From the  1878 and 1885 Pike County school censuses 1870, and 1871 respectively she was born. I was unable to locate Courtney in the 1900 census.
